We believe the project “food for the earth” not
only offers the opportunity for all to personally contribute to climate
mitigation, but will also have a positive influence on the ecological awareness
as well as the social cohesion of the community.
As described earlier, by composting within the own
neighborhood, the amount of waste for disposal can be reduced by 30 to 40%; in
this way the community directly influences the own production of greenhouse gas,
as transport and disposal of waste material will be reduced by the same percentage.
We believe that this first hand experience will also
encourage the people involved to think about ecological topics and issues in
general and it might inspire them to strive to change some of their own everyday
patterns. As a consequence, they might discover more environmental friendly
alternatives or become more engaged to find solutions on a community level.
Finally participating in this project and
meeting each other at the compost site area, or the other areas created around
the site, will undoubtedly boost the social cohesion within the community.
